Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate (molecular formula MgSO4.7H20), also known as bitter sulfur, bitter salt, Epsom salt, Epsom salt, is a white or colorless needle-shaped or oblique columnar crystal, odorless, cool and slightly bitter, molecular weight: 246.47, specific gravity 1.68, easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol or glycerol, soluble in its crystal water at 67.5 ℃. Decomposed by heat, 70/80 ℃ is to lose four molecules of crystal water. About 200 ℃ loses all crystal water to become anhydrous. It is easy to weather into powder in the air (dry) and gradually loses crystal water when heated to become anhydrous magnesium sulfate. This product does not contain any toxic substances. Because magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is not easy to decompose, it is easier to weigh than anhydrous magnesium sulfate, which is convenient for quantitative control in industry.

Magnesium Sulfate Heptahydrate Application

1 Agricultural application: Magnesium is the core element of chlorophyll, which can strengthen the reduction process of plants, improve resistance, promote enzyme activation, make compacted soil loose and powerful, promote root development, fully absorb nutrients, and make plants more luxuriant. Sulfur is the main component of protein and enzymes in plants, promotes root growth, enhances metabolism and oxidation-reduction in plants, and thus promotes vigorous growth of crops and increases yields. Therefore, magnesium sulfate is an ideal raw material for making compound fertilizers. It can be mixed with nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium into compound fertilizers or mixed fertilizers according to different needs, and can also be mixed with one or more raw materials into various fertilizers and photosynthetic fertilizers. After field actual comparison experiments on nine crops such as rubber trees, fruit trees, tobacco leaves, tea, vegetables, potatoes, etc., magnesium-containing compound fertilizers can make crops grow 15-20% more than compound fertilizers without magnesium.

2 Industrial application: The raw materials used to make zinc barium powder and other zinc salts are also important auxiliary materials for viscose fibers and vinylon fibers. They are also used as wood and leather agents, bone glue clarifiers and protective agents, and for electroplating flotation ore, etc.

3 Food application: In the food industry, magnesium sulfate can be used as lactic acid monosodium glutamate, etc.

4 Feed application: In feed, magnesium sulfate is a major additive.

5 Printing and dyeing application: In printing and dyeing, magnesium sulfate can be used as a dye weighting agent and mordant on fabrics.

6 In industrial wastewater treatment: Industrial production produces a lot of wastewater, and magnesium sulfate can coagulate and settle wastewater.

Product Knowledge: The main factors affecting the price of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate

The main factors affecting the price of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate are as follows:
1. Raw material prices
• Sulfuric acid price: The price of sulfuric acid is affected by the price of crude oil, the sulfur market, and the supply and demand of related chemical products. For example, rising crude oil prices will lead to higher sulfur prices, which in turn will push up sulfuric acid prices.
• Magnesium salt price: The price of magnesium salt resources such as magnesite is affected by the supply of mineral resources, mining costs and environmental protection policies. If mining costs increase or supply is in short supply, magnesium salt prices will rise, thereby increasing the production cost of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.
2. Production costs
• Electricity costs: Rising electricity prices will increase the operating costs of production companies, especially in the energy-dependent chemical industry.
• Natural gas costs: Increases in natural gas prices can also lead to higher production costs since natural gas is commonly used for heating and other process needs.
• Labor costs: Changes in labor costs will also affect the production cost of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate. As wage levels increase, labor costs for manufacturing companies will also increase.
3. Market demand
Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is also widely used in agriculture, medicine, textile, papermaking, building materials and other industries. The development status and demand changes of these industries will directly affect market demand.
• Changes in planting structure: If the planting area of certain crops with high demand for magnesium fertilizers expands, the demand for magnesium sulfate heptahydrate will also increase.
• Agricultural policies: Government support policies for agriculture, such as subsidies and support policies, will also affect the market demand for magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.
• Pharmaceutical industry: Magnesium sulfate heptahydrate is used in medicine, such as as a laxative and a drug to treat eclampsia. The demand is affected by medical needs and industry development.
• Industrial production: The prosperity of industries such as textiles, papermaking and building materials will also affect the demand for magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.
4. Supply chain status
• Transportation costs: Rising fuel prices will lead to increased transportation costs, especially long-distance transportation costs.
• Storage costs: Specific storage conditions (such as a dry environment) are required to maintain the stability of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate, which increases storage costs.
• Supply chain stability: Supply chain stability also affects prices. If there are disruptions in the supply chain, such as natural disasters or logistics bottlenecks, it can lead to product shortages and price increases.
5. Policies and environmental regulations
• Strict environmental regulations will increase the operating costs of manufacturing companies, such as the need to increase investment in environmental protection facilities or pay environmental protection fees. Higher emission standards may require companies to invest more resources to control emissions and increase production costs. Frequent environmental inspections and compliance requirements will increase corporate compliance costs.
• Import and export policies: Changes in import and export policies, such as tariffs and trade barriers, will affect the supply and demand relationship in the international market, thereby affecting prices.
6. International trade
• International competition: Competition from other countries affects domestic market prices. If there are more low-priced supplies in the international market, domestic prices will also be suppressed.
• Exchange rate fluctuations: Exchange rate fluctuations can affect import and export costs. When the domestic currency depreciates, import costs increase and export competitiveness increases, which may push prices up.
7. Technology development
• Technological innovation: New production processes or technologies can improve magnesium extraction efficiency or reduce energy consumption, thereby reducing the production cost of magnesium sulfate heptahydrate.
• Automation: Increasing the automation of the production process can reduce labor costs and improve product quality and consistency.
